Breast cancer survivors are invited to a unique celebration of life at Project Self-Sufficiency on Saturday, June 9th, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The Survivor Celebration will feature break-out sessions, entertainment, lunch, music and interactive exhibits. A keynote presentation will be offered by motivational speaker Diana Perez. The celebration is free, but space is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Interested participants must call Project Self-Sufficiency at 973-940-3500 or 844-807-3500 to register.
During her keynote presentation, Life Change Strategist, Coach and Motivational Speaker Diana Perez will discuss stress management and offer tips on rediscovering hope, joy and personal strength during times of crisis. Break-out sessions for participants will include a health and wellness workshop by Dr. Susan Cunico, cooking demonstrations by Newton Medical Center Nutrition Services, and a guided meditation session led by Medical Support and Clinical Hypnotherapist Lauren Cardinale. A Question and Answer session will be facilitated by medical oncologist Dr. May Abdo-Matkiwsky and breast surgeon Dr. Sarah Chima. A luncheon will be sponsored by Regional Cancer Care Associates and catered by Newton Medical Center. Musical entertainment will be offered by harpist Katie Pachnos. Raffles and other prizes will be awarded throughout the event. Numerous vendors will be available to offer tips on health, wellness, fashion and exercise.
“Sussex County continues to have a high incidence of incurable breast cancer, so it is with great pride that we are able to honor those women from our area who have survived this disease,” noted Project Self-Sufficiency Executive Director Deborah Berry-Toon. “With survival, however, comes the responsibility of maintaining well-being. This Survivor Celebration will guide participants about appropriate steps to take to maintain a healthy lifestyle, including nutrition, exercise and stress relief techniques. We are grateful to all of the individuals and organizations who have agreed to join in this special celebration of life.”
The Survivor Celebration is free and open to Sussex County breast cancer survivors, but registration is required. To register, call 973-940-3500.
