    May 24Andrew Spooner, 36, of Stanhope, was sentenced to three years in state prison with credit for 2 days served. He also must have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family, no unsupervised contact with minors, and pay standard fines and fees. At his release he will be required to register under Megan’s Law and will be supervised under parole supervision for life.
    He pleaded guilty on Jan. 29, 2018, to endangering the welfare of a child, a third-degree crime.
    Robert Hansen, 48, of West Collingswood Heights was indicted on two charges of two counts of third-degree crime of making terroristic threats and one count of the third-degree crime of arson.
    Arraignment before the Superior Court in Newton will be within the next 4 weeks.
    May 25Joel Caserta, 48, of Newton was sentenced to three years of probation and 90 days in the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility, which may be served in the Home Detention Program wiht the defendant paying all costs and fees.
    The defendant was ordered to have no contact with the victim, successfully complete an approved anger management program, pay fines and fees totaling $205, submit a DNA sample, and pay restitution of $376.09.
    He pleaded guilty on March 14, 2018, during the jury selection process, to Aggravated Assault, a third-degree crime.
    On March 13, 2016, in Newton, the defendant struck an individual in the face with his fists causing facial fractures.
    Brett A. Bayo, 26, of Middletown, N.Y., was sentenced to three years of probation with 8 days of jail credit. He also must have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family, no unsupervised contact with minors under the age of 18, undergo a psychiatric evaluation and follow all recommendations and pay standard fines and fees. Additionally, he will be required to register under Megan’s Law.
    He pleaded guilty on March 26, 2018, to criminal sexual contact, a fourth-degree crime.
    May 31John Nystrand, 37, of Newton pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a third-degree crime.
    Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
    In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to being in possession of heroin on Sept. 11, 2017.
    The case was investigated by Patrolman John Flanagan of the Newton Police Department.
    June 1Ronald Sahli, 50, of Sussex Borough was sentenced to seven years in state prison with a 36th month period of parole ineligibility, 168 days of jail credit, a two-year loss in driver's license and $1,333 in court fines.
    Sussex County Prosecutor Francis A. Koch announced the sentencing of Ronald Sahli, who appeared before the Honorable William J. McGovern, III, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, on June 1, 2018.
    He pleaded guilty on Jan. 8 to the third-degree crime of possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
    He admitted to possession with intent to distribute heroin in the Township of Andover on Dec. 15, 2017. The matter was investigated by the Sussex County Gangs, Guns and Narcotics Task Force.
    Chistopher Krak, 24, of Ogdensburg was sentenced to two years of probation. He also was ordered to 30 days of SLAP, six-month loss of license, 100 hours community service and mandatory fines and fees.
    Krak pleaded guilty on April 9 to one count of eluding, a third-degree offense, one count of driving under the influence, a motor vehicle offense and one (1) count of refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test, a motor vehicle offense.
    On Nov. 12, 2017, Krak was driving his vehicle at a high rate of speed while under the influence of alcohol and failed to stop when a law enforcement officer activated his overhead lights and tried to pull him over.
    Alex Mondragon, 32, of Paterson was sentenced to one year of probation with credit for three days of jail time served. He was ordered to complete 150 hours of community service work, obtain and maintain employment, write a letter of apology to the victim, and pay fines and fees totaling $155.
    He pleaded guilty on April 16, 2018, to theft, a third-degree crime.
    On April 26, 2016, Mondragon took a cell phone that was left on the counter of a Newton restaurant.
