Angry Erik Brewing had a groundbreaking celebration Sunday, May 20, 2018, and Saturday, May 26.
More than 160 gathered, many dressed as Vikings to support the brewery’s Nordic theme, over the two days to celebrate the beginning of construction on the brewery’s new location.
On Saturday, May 26, 110 people marched along the Paulinskill Valley Rail Trail from Angry Erik’s current location on Millpond Drive in Lafayette to the site of the new location on Camre Drive in Hampton. The trip was roughly 2.2 miles broken up by a groundbreaking ceremony from owners Heide & Erik Hassing at the new site.
“It gladdens me to know that Odin prepares for our arrival. Soon we shall be drinking ale from curved horns in this place. We shall not enter Odin’s Hall with fear, but with Angry Erik’s beer,” Heide Hassing yelled to the crowd during the groundbreaking.
Vikings could be seen marching along Route 94 and 206 with shields and axes in the heat to show their dedication to the only production brewery in Sussex County which has been in operation since February 2014.
“Having been a patron since the beginning, being a part of the march to the new location was a must do,” Dan Holdt, of Hampton, said. “Erik’s has been a place to meet friends old and new, and enjoy a pint with them. I really look forward to continuing the great times with the brew crew at the new location!”
The new location is projected to be three times the size of the current brewery, with space for outdoor seating. The building should be completed by November with hopes to open before the end of the year.
