    Richard “Rick” L. Border, Jr., 49 years old, died unexpectedly surrounded by his family at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh, N.C., on Wednesday, May 16, 2018. Born to Richard L. Border, Sr. and Marilyn Donohue in Red Bank, NJ, he had lived in Keansburg, N.J., and Middletown, N.J., before moving to Franklin, NJ in 2007.
    Rick earned his BA in History from Thomas Jefferson College after serving with the United States Navy during Desert Storm on the USS Nimitz. Rick worked as a self employed substitute teacher for many of the local school systems. He was a volunteer with the Sussex County Red Cross and a cherished member of the Vernon United Methodist Church where he was a dedicated Sunday School teacher and youth group leader. Rick had a heart of gold and was always ready and willing to give all he had in service to God, his country, family and others. He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.
    Rick is the beloved husband of Lisa Verlardi of Franklin, NJ. Loving son of Richard L. Border, Sr. and his wife, Marguerite of Middletown, N.J., and Marilyn Donohue and her husband, Philip of Zebulon, NC. Dear brother of Cheryl Dolan and her husband, Michael of Zebulon, N.C. Step brother of Michael Donohue of Ocean Twp., N.J. Son in law of Dolores Verlardi of Franklin, N.J. Brother-in-law of Michael Verlardi and his wife, Karen of Paradise Valley, AZ. Uncle of Brandon, Colin and Austin Dolan and Nichole, Michael and Danielle Verlardi. Cherished by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
    The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, N.J., on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, from 12 to 3 p.m. Funeral service will be at the Vernon United Methodist Church, 303 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at 4 p.m. Cremation is private.
