Plant sale planned at Fairgrounds

    Susan and Richard Sisti of Catalpa Ridge Farm will hold their 16th Annual Heirloom Tomato & Veggie Plant Sale Memorial Day Weekend at The Sussex Farmers Market @ the Fairgrounds.
    The plants will be set up in the Farmers Market Building on the fairgrounds (in the red barn) 37 Plains Road Augusta, NJ. The sale will be held on Saturday & Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend (May 26th & 27th) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. There will be a large variety of Heirloom tomato plants offered as well as a variety of Heritage Hybrid varieties, the most famous of which is the Ramapo Tomato. Catalpa Ridge Farm will also have a great selection of NJ bred tomato varieties including: Rutgers 250, Ramapo, Rutgers, Moreton, KC-146, Heinz 1370, and Campbell's' 33 perfect for the home gardener who wants to grow a special section of NJ specialty tomatoes in their garden. Included in the many varieties offered are tomato plants which are suitable for patio and container gardening.
    There will also be a great selection of herb, eggplant, squash, cucumber, onions, lettuce, nasturtiums, artichokes & pepper plants in addition to the tomato transplants. Some old-standby varieties such as Pink & Yellow Brandywine, Box Car Willie and Yellow Pear will continue to be offered. Many new varieties have been added this year, such as Red Pear Piriform (a large plum type), Jelly Bean (a small grape type) and many early varieties: Ultimate Opener, Primo Red, Fireworks and Early Wonder just to name a few!! Preorders are encouraged but not necessary. Preorders will be accepted up to May 23rd to be picked up during the day of the sale. This way you are assured your favorite variety as many popular varieties may be sold out early.
