Libraries to celebrate Makers Day

FRANKFORD — Sussex County Library System invites hands-on hobbyists of all ages to join in as they celebrate the Fourth Annual N.J. Makers Day on Saturday, March 10.
“We are hosting more than a dozen hands-on events with some great partners like Peters Valley and the Rutgers Master Gardeners,” stated Adult Services Librarian Louisa Bann. “This is our fourth year joining in the statewide Makers Day celebration and each year the plans get bigger.”
Makers Day events kickoff at 9:30 a.m. at the Main Library, 125 Morris Turnpike in Frankford, with an Origami Demo and Workshop by Peters Valley Artisan Raechel Eddy. Three additional Peters Valley crafters will appear from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. demonstrating wood turning, loom weaving and basket making. At 1 p.m. teens and adults are invited to turn faded books into works of art during the Book Arts Workshop with Alice Brees; followed by Make Your Own Sugar Scrub with Brigid McHugh from Kilted Suds at 2 p.m. The day at Main Library wraps up with a Seed Swap hosted with the Rutgers Master Gardeners at 3 p.m. To round out a day of family fun the youth services staff will be on hand to work with children making slime, play dough, dirt cups and more throughout the day.
Not to be outdone, the Sussex-Wantage Branch, 69 Route 639, Wantage, will kick off events at 10:00 a.m. with Art with the Brit Lady, an opportunity for adults to learn basic acrylic painting techniques with local artist Sally Stansfield. Peters Valley artisan Raechel Eddy will repeat her Origami Workshop at 2 p.m., and children are invited to make their own play dough at the same time. Mug Cakes and Crayon Sculptures for teens starts at 3 p.m.
Louise Childs, 21 Sparta Road, Stanhope, will celebrate the day with Make Your Own Fairy and Hobbit Doors for children and Book Arts with Alice Brees for teens and adults at 10 a.m.; followed by Make Dirt Cups for children at 11 a.m. The branch will also host a drop-in jewelry make-and-take both Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon for adults and teens.
