Center plans pharmacist workshop

NEWTON — A pharmacist workshop will be hosted by the Coalition for Healthy and Safe Communities, a program of Center for Prevention on Sunday, Feb. 25, from 6-8 p.m. with registration starting at 5:30 p.m.
This workshop will provide Pharmacists with a Narcan training along with an update on available resources for the prevention of substance use and opioid overdose. Providing overdose recognition and response education is a harm reduction intervention that saves lives.
Heroin and other opioid overdoses are especially responsive to intervention because risk factors are well understood and Narcan is a safe antidote. In Sussex County alone, there were 33 overdose fatalities from January to November 2017 with many due to opioid medications or heroin. In 2017, 92 lives in Sussex County were saved by the administration of Narcan, nearly three times the number of overdose fatalities.
Narcan saves lives and education is vital. Two and a half pharmacy credits will be provided to attendees at no cost. (Credits are pending approval by NJ Board of Pharmacy).
