Ogdensburg adopts new police contract

OGDENSBURG — The Ogdensburg Council on Feb. 12 adopted the recently negotiated Ogdensburg Police Force contract.
Negotiating committee members included: Councilmen Robert Gunderman, David Astor, and Peter Opilla.
Community Action Services Director Steven Weinberg gave a presentation to the council regarding the Housing Rehabilitation Program, which the council will vote on at their next meeting.
Weinberg explained the program provides a loan for applicable residents to fix their homes including: windows, treatments, roof, and siding. In order to participate in the program, residents make a certain amount of money per year in conjunction with the number of people living in the house – up to four people.
He continued, the resident does not directly pay back the loan, but the loan is returned at the improved house sale.
Mayor Rachel Slater reported work began on Heater's Pond Dam; and council members were scheduled to meet on Wed., Feb. 14, with Elizabethtown Gas.
Also, Astor will arrange a date with Project Self Sufficiency to bring their RV and services to the Ogdensburg Elementary School.
Councilman Michael Nardini is reviewing new water billing software for the borough; and Councilman George Hutnick is reviewing the Employee Handbook for potential updates.
The council also unanimously approved the Wallkill Valley High School Future Business Leaders of America, Support our Local Law Enforcement Day in April. Gunderman was absent.
