George D. Baton Sr., 88, passed away on Friday, Jan. 5. George was born in Berkeley, Va., on Oct. 9, 1929, to the late Joseph and Alethia (Casey) Baton. George had been a resident in Ogdensburg, Carlstadt and Passaic before moving to Franklin.
George served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a sheet metal fabricator for the Mosler Safe Company in Wayne, NJ for 25 years retiring in 1991. George enjoyed watching western movies and was most proud of his Navy.
George was predeceased by his wife, Mildred in 2000, and his twin brother Joseph, a brother Robert Baton, a sister Juanita Senora, and a grandson.
George is survived by his five children, George D. Baton Jr. and Sandy, of Waterville, N.Y, JoAnn Richardson and her husband William of Sparta, Edward Charles Baton and his wife Elda of Franklin, James Baton and his wife Flora of Ogdensburg, Joseph Baton and his wife Kim of Hopatcong, and his 13 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren, and his brother, Charles Baton of St. Augustine, FL, and a sister Ruth Ann Carlson of Somerville, S.C.
Relatives and friends will be received on Monday, Jan. 8, from 4-8 p.m. at the F. John Ramsey Funeral Home One Main Street, Franklin, NJ. The family will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial service at Immaculate Conception RC Church with burial at Christ the King Cemetery, Franklin Lakes, NJ.
