NEWTON — Glen Burtnik’s Summer of Love concert returns to The Newton Theatre on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 8 p.m.
Tickets range from $39 to $54 and may be purchased by visiting www.TheNewtonTheatre.com or contacting the Box Office at 973-940-NEWT.
The Summer of Love concert will bring back the memories and the spirit of the Woodstock generation. Led by Glen Burtnik (Styx, Beatlemania), with a full band and psychedelic light show, the concert will bring you the music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Santana, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Jefferson Airplane and many more.
Glen Burtnik is an alumnus of Styx and the original Beatlemania (he played Paul), touring bassist/vocalist with the current version of ELO, major label recording artist and hit songwriter (Sometimes Love Just Ain't Enough — Don Henley/Patty Smyth, Spirit of a Boy, Wisdom of a Man — Randy Travis, and others). The Summer of Love Concert focuses on iconic rock music from the period of time generally between the 1967 release of The Beatles revolutionary album Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and the famous Woodstock Music and Art Festival in 1969.
Joined by twelve or more performers including a horn section, strings, keyboardists, percussionists, background vocalists and an incredible rock rhythm section, the Summer of Love Experience recreates “note for note and absolutely live” the songs, and the psychedelically flavored spirit, of the Woodstock Generation.
"I've always had a playlist on my IPod named The Summer of Love. I'm actually a hippie at heart. The music of that era is probably what moves me the most," said Burtnik in a recent interview.
The Summer of Love Concert also includes music from artists like Ravi Shankar, Procol Harum, Joe Cocker, Melanie, The Spencer Davis Group, Cream, The Youngbloods, and many more nuggets and surprises from artists like The Rascals, Chicago, The Zombies, Tommy James and The Shondells, Mountain, Otis Redding, Sonny and Cher, Sly and The Family Stone, Canned Heat, The Strawberry Alarm Clock, and more! The songs run the gamut from the psychedelic songs to rockin' album tracks to a sprinkling of now hip Top 40 pop from that era.
To further enhance that experience, The Summer of Love Concert also features Marc Rubinstein’s Pig Light Show which is recognized as one of the most famous psychedelic light shows in rock history and is well known for its use in the late 1960’s as the house light show at Bill Graham’s legendary New York City concert hall, the Fillmore East.
