— “Love your guts” is the motto that Stefanie Jasper and Robert Whitescarver live by. The couple recently opened Get Juiced, a healthy eatery in Sussex.
Based on locally sourced ingredients, 90 percent of which are either organic or from biodynamic farms, Get Juiced makes a variety of cold press juices, grab-and-go soups, wraps and snacks. The company was started in 2015 when Jasper and Whitescarver started making ginger candy at home.
“We knew that we wanted to have a business based on our own healthy eating that we already incorporated into our lifestyle,” said Jasper. “We enjoy experimenting while cooking, for example, combining ancient practices of preserving by fermenting with modern tastes.”
Products are handmade with the finest ingredients, always focused on creating unique flavor experiences, adds Jasper.
After doing the festival and farmers market circuit, the couple, who lives in Hamburg, decided it was time for a storefront. Hoping to have a presence in Sussex County and an opportunity to showcase healthy eating that is good for your guts, Get Juiced opened on Aug. 12 at 4 Hamburg Ave. in Sussex.
“We wanted to be plugged into the local area and become a destination,” said Jasper. “Just a place for people to come for really good, healthy eating.”
With an onslaught of cold press juices widely available, Jasper said hers are differentiated because of the fermentation process and packaging:
“We do not use plastics, only glass-we incorporate strict packaging. We do a lot of experimenting using local vegetables exposed to local microbes. And combining fermentation with fresh is unique at the moment.”
Smoothies at Get Juiced are also a big hit: The Green One, Strawnanie, Monkey Mash and Mastery Blue.
Get Juiced is expanding and is now available for purchase at Yoga Youniverse in Sparta. Jasper hopes to continue the brand’s presence selling to other specialty stores in New York City and Miami.
“We are thrilled to offer Get Juiced products at our studio,” says Dorota Ellington, owner of Yoga Youniverse. “I tried my first Get Juiced drink after hours of teaching, and I remember feeling blissful. Choosing fresh foods can help us feel better and preserve the environment, so it is not only supporting our own health but also that of our planet. I am thankful to Stefanie and Bob for their enthusiasm and bringing Get Juiced to Sparta and the Yoga Youniverse community.”
