The Rotary Club of Newton raised money to assist the homeless residents of Sussex County during a Farm to Table event on Sept. 25, 2017.
Twenty-five backpacks filled with basic necessities and comfort items along with over two dozen pre-packed bags of food were delivered to the Sussex County Division of Social Services through this effort on the 8th of November.
Backpacks were specially created to accommodate men, women, or children. Each backpack contained basic necessities such as winter hats, gloves, and scarves. Age appropriate toys such as Legos, stuffed animals, and fidget spinners were included in the backpacks for children. Blankets, socks, and hygiene products were included in the backpacks for men and women. Can openers and plastic cutlery were also supplied to accompany the pre-packaged bags of food.
The Division of Social Services would like to express its gratitude to the Rotary Club of Newton for this extremely generous donation. These basic items are essential to provide warmth, comfort, and nutrition to those who are homeless. Many of these items have already been provided to Sussex County residents in need.
