Couple wins Crystal Cup championship

The golf season at the Crystal Springs Golf Resort came to an end on Monday, October 23rd with the playing of the 3rd Crystal Cup Championship.
Members have been competing in monthly Member Appreciation Tournaments at the Resorts, Wild Turkey, Crystal Springs, Black Bear and Ballyowen Golf Club’s to earn points to qualify for the end of year Crystal Cup championship.
The Championship was contested by 3 Divisions; Men’s Division, Ladies Division and Senior Division following an individual stroke play format in which each golfer played his or her own golf ball for 18 holes and recorded their score less their GHIN handicap. The top 3 golfers in each division were awarded prizes. Prizes were also awarded prizes in long drive and closest to the pin skill contests.
Following golf the participating members retired to Ballyowen’s Owen’s Pub to honor the top performers in the championship, celebrate a great season of golf and enjoy a delicious dinner prepared by the outstanding Ballyowen food and beverage staff.
When all of the scores were tallied in each of the 3 Divisions it was for the 2nd year won by husband and wife who won top honors in the Men’s and Lady’s Division. Dona Wallerius carded a 93 net 73 resulting in a total of 222.5 points to win the Lady’s Division while husband Bob Wallerius shot an 85 net 72 resulting in a total of 298.5 points to take the win in the Men’s Division. Ed Lemire’s 330.5 points and 81 strokes earning a net score of 68 was the best performance in the Senior Division earing him the title of Crystal Cup Senior Champion.
Other top performers in the 3 Divisions were 2nd place Bob Spetz and 3rd place Corey Rosenburg in the Men’s Division; 2nd place Steve Van Dyk, and 3rd place Joe Giamarinno in the Senior Division; and 2nd place Patricia Zakur, and 3rd place Alice Kwon in the Lady’s Division. First place winners in each division received a Weekday Premier Membership at the Crystal Springs Golf Resort for the 2018 golf season.
The winner of closest to the pin on hole #4 was Alice Kwon with a shot that came to rest 7’1” from the pin and Tim Okrongy whose shot ended 4’ 4” from the pin on hole #11. Long Drive honors went to Sang Soo Lee in the Men’s Division, Steve Van Dyk in the Seniors Division and Carol Julich in the Lady’s Division.
