Girl Scouts participate in breast cancer walk

Some of the girls from Wallkill Valley Girl Scout Troop 95328 participated in Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk in Parsippany on Oct. 15.
Hailey Morse, Kristen Fiedler, Amanda Fiedler, Savannah VanNess and Alexandria VanNess did this in honor of the founder of Girl Scouts Juliette Gordon Low.
In 1923, Ms. Low discovered she had breast cancer. She kept the diagnosis a secret, instead continuing her work with Girl Scouting, and her final mission to use the Girl Scouts as international ambassadors for peace.
Low died from the final stages of cancer in Jan. 17, 1927. She was buried in her Girl Scout uniform in Laurel Grove Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia.
