FRANKLIN — A borough woman is facing fraud charges after police officers were dispatched to ShopRite on Oct. 9.
Amanda Hughes, 33, was charged with fraud and theft.
Police said Shop Rite employees became suspicious when they noticed a regular customer — Hughes — Franklin who they identified from prior contacts in the store attempting to identify herself as another person in order to pass a check which did not belong to her.
Officers reported that upon their arrival a customer allegedly attempted to purchase merchandise with a check that was not issued to her and further made attempts to fraudulently sign the check which belonged to another Franklin resident.
Officers who responded allegedly found Hughes to be in possession of a stolen check book and alleged that Hughes forged the signature of the owner of the check book on one of the personal checks.
Hughes was also found to have warrants totaling $2025 from Totowa. She was lodged in the Passaic County Jail.
Investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may follow.
