Oroho and Space hail grants to provide food for low-income families

NEWTON — State Sen. Steve Oroho (R-24) and Assemblyman Parker Space (R-24) have lauded the award of more than $130,000 in community services block grants to provide food and diapers to low-income families. Gov. Chris Christie and the state Dept. of Community Affairs announced the grants to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey and NORWESCAP, a private nonprofit serving the low-income population of Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Warren counties.
“This is good news for people and families struggling to make ends meet in a state with some of the highest taxes in the county. This funding can be the difference between children going hungry or getting enough to eat,” said Oroho.
The Community Food Bank will get a special program grant of $110,236 to distribute fresh produce through its partner network and diapers through its diaper bank program.
NORWESCAP is the recipient of a $20,000 award to increase food and diaper supplies at food banks.
“Nutritious food is essential for every member of a family, especially pre-school and school-age children,” said Space. “The demand on food bank resources increases as the cold weather and holidays approach. It’s reassuring that these organizations will provide indispensable assistance to as many people as possible.”
Oroho and Space’s district includes Sussex and parts of Morris and Warren counties.
