    Sept. 18Gines Rodriguez, III, 45, of Pompton Lakes pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful possession of a handgun, a second-degree crime, and one count of simple assault, a disorderly persons offense.
    Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 27.
    Chase Wainstein. 27. of Jefferson, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled dangerous substance, a third-degree crime, and driving under the influence (second offense), a motor vehicle offense. 
    Sentencing is scheduled for November 3, 2017.
    On Aug. 18, 2016, the defendant was the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a support cable of a utility pole and then into several trees in Sparta Township. In pleading guilty, the defendant admitted to driving under the influence and being in possession of Alprazolam. 
    The case was investigated by Patrolman Scott Elig of the Sparta Township Police Department.
