Golfers compete in final qualifier for Crystal Cup championship

Since the beginning of the golf season members of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort have been competing in monthly qualifying Member Appreciation Tournaments to qualify for the end of the year Crystal Cup Championship scheduled for Tuesday, October 10, 2017. At stake is the naming of the top golfers in three divisions, the Men’s Division, Women’s Division and Senior Men’s Division.
The champions also receive a free membership in the Crystal Springs Golf Resort for the 2018 golf season.
Golfers that compete in the monthly qualifying tournaments played at the different Crystal Springs Golf Resort Courses, Ballyowen Golf Club, Wild Turkey Golf Club, Black Bear Golf Club and Crystal Springs Golf Club earn points toward qualifying for the championship along with additional points for being a top performer.
The 5th MAT Crystal Cup event featured a metal play format with each golfer playing their own ball through the 18-hole competition with the golfers in the three divisions with the lowest gross score and lowest net score after deduction of handicap strokes declared the winners. The top low gross performer in the Men’s Division was Bob Wallerius with a score of 72 with his wife Dona Wallerius making it a family affair by capturing low gross honors in the Women’s Division with a score of 90.
Ed Lemire scored a 77 to win the Senior Men’s Division. Low net winners included Bob Spetz with a 69 in the Men’s Division, Judith Bobiak the winner of the Women’s Division with a low net score of 69 and Robert Guggiari carded a low net score of 62 to win the Senior Men’s Division.
Golfers in the 5th MAT Qualifier competed for prizes in closest to the pin and longest drive contests. Kory Rosenberg was the winner of the closest to the pin competition on hole #7 with a tee shot that came to rest 6’ 9“ from the pin. James Guggiari’s shot on hole #14 landed 6”9” to take the win on hole #14. Donna Wallerius became a two-time winner on the day as the Low Gross Women’s Champ and taking long drive honors in the Women’s Division. Husband Bob Wallerius was also a repeat winner as Men’s Low Gross Champ and the longest drive winner in the Men’s Division. Mike Boswell was the winner of the long drive contest for the Senior Men’s Division.
