NEWTON — The Sussex Stags defeated the New Jersey Pirates (Mercer County, N.J.) on Saturday, September 9, 2017. The final score was 62-0. The semipro football game took place at Newton High School in Sussex County.
The Stags have been wrecking opponents all season long, and entering the end zone regularly. The Pirates on the other hand have suffered an abysmal season and have not scored a touchdown.
The Stags improved to 10-1 on the season. They have already secured a place in the playoffs. Now they will finish the regular season on the road in two more games. This is the third straight season the Stags have earned a playoff spot.
The Stags poured on the pain and points to get a better standing in the playoffs. To get a good slot in the post season, points matter. Stags quarterbacks Joe Enslin and Adam Schlereth shared playing time and kept the heat on the Pirates.
The Sussex Stags are scheduled to play the New Rochelle Warriors in Westchester, County, New York on Sunday, September 17.
