Peters Valley plans new exhibition

LAYTON — Peters Valley School of Craft is pleased to announce a new exhibition, All Things Considered 9: Basketry in the 21st Century, in the Sally D. Francisco Gallery from Sept. 16 through Oct. 29 with reception and talk Sunday, Oct. 1, from 2-5 p.m.
This is a traveling exhibition presented by the National Basketry Organization.
Ninth in a series of juried biennial exhibitions this exhibit is intended to show a broad view, both traditional and sculptural, of contemporary basketry in the United States. The exhibition opened in Tacoma, Wash., in July in conjunction with the National Basketry Organization’s conference in Tacoma, Wash., and included 70 artworks juried by Lloyd Herman. Forty of the selected entries traveling to an additional two venues on the East coast beginning with Peters Valley.
The exhibition’s juror, Lloyd Herman, was the founding Director of the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery, the national craft museum of the United States, from 1971–1986. Herman is the author of Art That Works: The Decorative Arts of the Eighties, Crafted in America and lives and works in Seattle, Washington.
This exhibition showcases excellence in creative exploration, technique, craftsmanship, concept and design, showing a full spectrum of work currently being executed by well-known and emerging artists. From black bamboo to reclaimed plastics, the works represent a broad range of approaches by artists working within the field of contemporary basketry.
The Gallery at Peters Valley School of Craft is located at 19 Kuhn Rd., Layton, NJ 07851 and is open daily from 10 a.m – 6 p.m.
