Borough celebrates Hamburg Day

HAMBURG — It’s not easy squeezing this much fun into 1.2 square miles but for the past six years the organizers of ‘Hamburg Day’ have done an admirable job creating a carnival atmosphere at the borough’s annual celebration.
This year’s Hamburg Day, the borough’s seventh, was no exception.
Kathy Garret, Hamburg’s recreation secretary and deputy clerk, estimated that last year’s festivities drew over 400 people. At least that many people were expected to attend this year’s event, which ran from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20. Eighteen vendors also signed up to display their wares, man the rides, or distribute information; and, of course, the Hamburg Fire Department was on hand to give out free hot dogs and beverages.
And why not?
With a chance to finally beat this summer’s rain clouds, kids of all ages came out to enjoy the beautiful sunny weather and a chance to inspect a fire truck up close, ride a pony, capture a balloon animal, bounce in a bounce house, or maybe just run through a stream of giant bubbles.
