Group looking for Jefferson hometown heroes

| 16 Jun 2017 | 01:07

The staff and campers in attendance at the Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp will participating in activities centering around the week’s theme of Super Heroes on Aug. 11.
At that time, they would like to honor Jefferson’s own community heroes — police officers, state troopers, firefighters, first aid responders, members of the armed forces (retired, former and current), etc.
This is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the campers how these individuals serve their community and their country and give them an opportunity to interact with each other. The participating individuals are asked to come attired in their respective uniform at 1 pm that afternoon to chat with the children about what they do, answer their questions, pose for photos, and enjoy a snack with the campers. Upon arrival, they can check in at the Community Lodge with Camp Directors Terri McCarney or Terry Koontz or Recreation Director Grace Rhinesmith (all will be wearing light blue staff polo shirts).
If you or someone you know falls into any of these categories and would be interested in participating, contact Carol Punturieri, Recreation Program Coordinator at 973-663-8404 x4 or cpunturieri@jeffersontownship.net as soon as possible with full contact information (full name, email address, mobile phone #, volunteer position or branch of service) so a list can be compiled and a reminder can be sent as the date draws near.
The Camp Jefferson Summer Day Camp thanks you for your volunteer service and military commitments and for considering this request to allow children to better understand what volunteerism in their community means as well as what service to their country means by personally meeting hometown heroes who are in reality true super heroes making a difference every day.
