TRENTON — The Assembly approved Assemblyman Parker Space’s resolution designating the first full week of June as New Jersey Fishing and Boating Week.
“Fishing and boating is a major sector of the state economy,” said Space. “There are more than 750,000 people who fish in New Jersey waters, spending almost $10 million annually. Promoting this industry will create jobs and increase revenue.”
The resolution calls on the governor to issue a proclamation annually, and directs the Division of Fish and Wildlife to publicize the week across the state.
“Strong fishing and boating industries help put food on the table for many families in the state,” Space said. “The geographic diversity of New Jersey features a variety of on-water and on-shore fishing opportunities, with lakes, streams, rivers and saltwater coastline.”
