A break in the rainy weather provided a beautiful day for the playing of the 2nd Member Appreciation Tournament to identify qualifiers for the end of the golf season Crystal Cup Championship at the Black Bear Golf Club on Wednesday, May 10.
A full roster of Crystal Springs Golf Resort Members gathered to compete in four divisions, the Men’s Division, Women’s Division, Senior Men’s Division and Couples Division for points toward qualifying for the Crystal Cup Championship and for prizes awarded to top performers in each of the divisions.
The format for play was a two golfer team event with each player playing their own ball and carding their gross score and an adjusted score based on their GHIN handicap to produce a net score. At the end of play the net scores of both team members were combined to achieve a net team score. The teams scores in each of the divisions were ranked and the teams with the lowest net scores were identified as the winners.
The top performers in the Men’s Division were Jack Demetris and Tim Okrongly who achieved a combined score of 8 under par 64 bettering the second place team of Raymond Ketch and Tom Wessel by two strokes with a -6 under par 66.
The winning team of Edmund Lemire and Bob Mosier achieved a -12 under par 60 to take top honors in in the Senior Men’s Division to outperform the second-place team of Steve Van Dyk and John Brandt who carded a -3 under par 69. The top team in the Women’s Division Patricia Zakur and Lisa Morrison were able to score a net score of -2 under par 70 which was 5 strokes better than the second place team of Kimberly Spiro and Mckenzie Gaw whose combined score was a +3 over par 75. The Couples Division Team of Robert Wallerius and Dona Wallerius scored a net score of -1 under par 71 which was 4 strokes better than the second place team of John Schneider and Shelia Schneider who scored a +1 over par 73.
Golfers in the event were also competing for prizes for the golfers who were closest to the pin and who hit the longest drive. Honors in these skill events went to closest to the pin winners Bob Mosier on hole #7 and Mike Jaron on hole #14 whose tee shots came to rest 15 feet 8 inches and 6 feet 6” respectively from the pin. The Men’s Longest Drive competition was won by John Dankworth. Long drive honors in the Women’s Division went to McKenzie Gaw with Tim Okrongly taking the win for the Senior long drive completion.
