Poetry Festival planned at college

| 25 May 2017 | 02:36

The Betty June Silconas Center at Sussex County Community College will be the setting for the Poetry Festival.
The festival is set for Saturday, June 10 in the Performing Arts Center Atrium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event will include an all-day book fair featuring local poets, literary readings, and workshops. Registration and breakfast begin at 9 a.m.
The panel discussion, Poet in the World, with guest poets Roberto Garcia, Paul Genega, and Yesenia Montilla will discuss how social consciousness impacts the writing process, how a poet benefits from but also finds alternatives to the “echo chamber” of our social, cultural, and media worlds. This panel talk will include questions and free responses on topics such as: how writers hold up a mirror, how to form communities and connect with audiences, and in what ways art is sustained, challenged, or otherwise personally affected.
The festival will close with the launch of the Betty June Silconas Poetry Center's Stillwater Review, Vol. 7, plus reading.
Registration fee for the morning panel discussion is $15 and includes breakfast, lunch, and a copy of The Stillwater Review, Volume 7. Advanced registration is recommended to reserve a spot.
Payment can be mailed to: Sussex County Community College: ATTN: Foundation, One College Hill Road, Newton, NJ 07860.
Make check payable to SCCC Foundation and please include “Poetry Festival” in the memo line.
