Centenary Stage Company continues their tradition of nurturing young artists by offering the Tyro Acting Program and the critically acclaimed Young Performers Workshop this summer.
Registration for both programs is now open and seeking new and returning applicants.
The TYRO Acting Program, designed specifically for young thespians ages 6-11 years of age utilizes structured theatre activities which focus on expression, confidence building and fun. Young thespians will learn acting games and demonstrate improvisations inspired by popular fairy and folk tales. The two-week TYRO Acting Program summer session runs July 10 through July 21. Tuition for the Summer Session is $200.00 per student and the deadline for registration is June 24, 2017.
The TYRO Acting Program is led by Maria Brodeur, the CSC Education Director. Brodeur is a professional actress and arts educator with experience in children’s theatre. Brodeur holds a BA in Theatre and Education from Rutgers University. One TYRO parent recently exclaimed, “I saw so much growth in Christine this summer as a result of the wonderful handling given by all of you.”
Celebrating over 20 years of acclaimed musical theatre training for young thespians and hailed as a “State Treasure”, the Centenary Stage Company’s Young Performers Workshop is now seeking registration of new and returning applicants for the YPW Summer Intensive. This 5-week intensive program is designed to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate and advanced performers, ages 8–18, interested in working in the theatre. The hands-on program utilizes both the classroom and the production process to train young people in the theatre arts. The program includes the production of musicals and one-act plays. Once registered, students are guaranteed a part in at least one production and, depending on ability, experience, desire and commitment level, could feasibly appear in more than one production. Students participate in a wide variety of class room subjects including; acting, tap, theatre dance, and voice/diction. Electives classes, such as, stage combat, radio and television production, music theory, directing, costume design etc. are offered pending availability.
Led by theatre, TV and film veteran Michael Blevins, the summer session will run July 10 through August 13 and culminates in a Summer Festival of Shows. Registration deadline for all applicants is June 27, 2017. While no prior experience is required to participate in the Young Performers Workshop, all new applicants must complete an interview session with program director, Michael Blevins, prior to acceptance into the program.
