Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Daniels will make his only area appearance this summer when he headlines the 8th annual Rock, Ribs & Ridges festival on June 24, 2017.
The music icon brings his fiddle and exhilarating mixture of rock, country, bluegrass, blues, and gospel to North Jersey as Franklin Sussex Auto Mall presents two days of great music and mouthwatering barbecue at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ on June 24-25.
"Rock, Ribs and Ridges, just add a little CDB and a good ole time will be had by all," said Daniels, whose Volunteer Jam launched many of today's day-long music marathons, including Rock, Ribs & Ridges, which features as many as nine bands over two days.
It hasn't been so much a style of music but more of values that have connected Charlie Daniels to millions of fans over a 50-year career. A talented and showy fiddler, Daniels is known for his signature “bull rider” hat and belt buckle as well as being notorious for a down-home, good-old-boy attitude.
Daniels’ rebel anthems Long Haired Country Boy and The South's Gonna Do It propelled his 1975 collection Fire On the Mountain to double platinum status. He won a Grammy Award in 1979 for The Devil Went Down to Georgia, which still receives regular airplay on classic rock and country stations.
A proud member of the Grand Ole Opry, Daniels has received numerous industry honors including awards from the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music as well as from the Pentagon for his support of the nation’s military personnel. He was inducted in the Country Music Hall of Fame on October 16, 2016 — 12 days before his 80th birthday, but age doesn’t slow Charlie down: the Charlie Daniels Band performed more than 100 concerts last year.
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum honored the legend with an exhibit called Million Mile Reflections that opened September 23, 2016 and will remain open through Sept. 4, 2017.
His induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame gave Charlie a bookend to his memoir, Never Look At The Empty Seats, an autobiography that will be released Oct. 24, 2017.
“We’re thrilled to have Charlie Daniels back headlining the area’s premier summer music and food festival,” said Festival Executive Producer Howard Freeman of Promo 1, who noted that Daniels’ first performance in 2013 helped the festival’s growth and eventual move to the expansive fairgrounds.
“Charlie personifies what this weekend is all about — great music from legendary artists in a relaxed setting, great food, camping out and having an awesome time,” added Freeman.
The annual summer bash features nine artists including Daniels, Blackberry Smoke, Molly Hatchet, Outlaws, Marshall Tucker Band and the Kentucky Headhunters; five of the top barbecue pitmasters in the country; a great selection of craft beers; added food attractions and the ability to camp out throughout the weekend.
