American Legion to celebrate anniversary

The American Legion Tri-County Memorial Post 423 in Jefferson Township will be celebrating its 70th Anniversary at the Casa Bianca Restrauant on Saturday, June 17.
Several members of the Post and 6 members of the auxiliary will be honored for their years of service to the American Legion and the community.
The Post was chartered by the National American Legion on June 12, 1947. Its membership is made up of Veterans from Morris, Sussex and Passaic Counties. The Commander at the time was former Lieutenant John A. Headly of the U.S. Army.
There were 63 members who are the Charter Members. Only one Charter Member remains with us today.
At the same time, an Auxiliary was formed and its President was Wava Z. Headley. It is known as the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 423. The current President is Andrea Drzyzga.
In the following years, the Sons of the American, Squadron 423 was formed and its Commander today is Kenneth Potter.
Since it was organized, the Legion has been involved in many activities in town and has also initiated a number of Veterans and Community programs. It also supports statewide and national programs for Veterans and their families.
