Joseph Bennett Palmisano, 92, passed on Sunday April 9, 2017, at home in Hardyston. Joe was born in New York City in 1925 before moving to Providence, Rhode Island as a young child.
At age 19 Joseph served in the United States Army. World War II Veteran, Company B, 386 Infantry Regiment, 97th Division. Joseph served in many Campaigns throughout Europe, serving under General Patton. World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, & Purple Heart.
On Oct. 25, 1952, Joseph was wed to his love, Rose Costa, of Jersey City. He was a devoted husband to Rose for 61 years. Together they raised their 4 children. In 1963 Joe & Rose moved their family to Sussex County.
Joe was a machinist by trade, employed by and retired from Picatinny Arsenal.
Joseph & Rose retired to Toms River in 1983.
After retirement Joe was a business owner & entrepreneur. Joe & Rose returned to Sussex County in 2004 to spend time with their family.
Joe loved music & dancing; especially the big band era. Joe had a passion for creating stained glass pieces, which he gifted to many. Joe enjoyed singing in the chorus & was an avid chess player. Joe especially enjoyed playing chess with his 6 grandsons, all of whom he taught to play. Joseph was very patriotic and enjoyed keeping up with current events.
Joe had the gift of storytelling; with his sharp mind, great wit, & a sense of humor his stories came to life. Joe was a man of God, loved his family, and life.
Joseph is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife Rose of 61 years.
Joseph, father of Angela Palmisano Peacock; Frank & his wife Elizabeth, Thomas & his wife JoAnne, & Raymond Palmisano. Grandfather of Austin & Tyler Peacock, Michael, Joseph, Anthony, & Nicholas Palmisano. Great Grandfather of Alexus and Thomas Joseph. Friend to many, loved by all. Joseph will be honored at a Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, May 20 at 12:00 Noon, St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church, Hamburg, NJ. followed by a graveside service.
