A major event for the members of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort is the Crystal Cup Championship held at the end of the golf season to determine the top golfers for the 2017 season.
To qualify members compete in monthly Member Appreciation Qualifying Tournaments held at each of the Resort’s courses. Golfers in these qualifying events earn points for their participation and additional points for their performance. At the end of the season the golfers with the highest number of qualifying points are invited to play in the Crystal Cup Championship held in October.
This month’s event was held on Thursday, April 13th at the Crystal Springs Golf Course and featured a 2 player team scramble format in which each golfer hit their golf shot and the team played the best shot of the team throughout the match. The competition was held based on four divisions, Men’s Division, Senior Men’s Division, Ladies Division and the Couples Division. The best performers in each division were awarded prizes.
The best performers in the Men’s Division were two teams that each scored a 7 under par 65. A match of cards was used to determine the winning father and son team of Patrick and Scott Egan with the team of Pete McIntyre and Bob Spetz taking second place.
Joe Green and Mark Kurtz carded a five under par 67 to best the team of Ed Lemire and Mike Gidice whose two under par 70 was sufficient to capture second place. Patricia Zukur and Lisa scored a seven over par 79 to win the Ladies Division with Robert and Dona Wallerius carding the low score of eight under par 64 to win the Couples Division with Michael and Stephanie Boswell carding a two under par 70 to take second place.
Prizes were also given for the golfers who hit the longest drive and were closest to the pin. Bob Spetz hit his tee shot to within 44 inches of the pin on hole number 5 to win closest to the pin. Men’s Longest Drive honors went to Don Till with Joe Giammarino winning Longest Drive for Seniors. Dona Wallerius was a repeat winner for the Ladies Longest Drive prize.
