Medicine Disposal planned on April 29

NEWTON — Since 2009, Sussex County residents have been able to dispose of unwanted, unused and expired drugs at local law enforcement lobbies.
On April 29, 2017, you are urged to “Spring Clean” your medicine cabinet in an effort to address prescription drug misuse. This National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the DEA, aims to promote a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing prescription drugs while also educating the general public about the potential for misuse of medications.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday April 29, take this opportunity to prevent prescription and over-the-counter drug abuse and theft by participating in this national event.
Sussex County residents are urged to clean out their medicine cabinets and bring their medications to disposal sites available around the county at 8 permanent locations open 24/7/365 with another location available on April 29 in Byram at the CVS and Shop Rite from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. This service is always free and anonymous, no questions asked.
In Sussex County, dispose of medications at the Andover, Byram, Hardyston, Hopatcong, Newton, Sparta and Vernon Police Departments as well as the Augusta State Police Barracks every day, any time.
