Libraries to celebrate Makers Day

FRANKFORD — Sussex County Library System invites “tinkerers” of all ages to join in as they celebrate the third annual NJ Makers Day on Friday and Saturday, March 24-25.
NJ Makers Day is a statewide event that celebrates and promotes maker culture, as well as the values associated with making, tinkering, crafting, manufacturing and STEM-based (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) learning.
Makers Day Events begin Friday, March 24, with Download and Dine at 10 a.m. at the Main Library in Frankford. Also at Main Library, Sewing Machine Basics for adults at 2 p.m., and an opportunity for families to learn basic computer coding at 3 p.m. On Saturday, March 25, the Main Library welcomes naturalist Rich Hoffman to lead a program on maple sugaring at 10 a.m., followed by Make It & Take It: Hand-Stamped Jewelry for adults, and a special session of Minecraft Club for children, both at 11 a.m.
On Saturday afternoon kids are invited for their own hands-on programming session with Finch Robots at noon. At 1 p.m. teens and adults can learn to make light-up greeting cards. The day concludes with a special writing and drawing workshop for teens hosted by the Onigiri Animanga Club from 2-4 p.m.
Sussex County Branch Libraries will celebrate Makers Day with a variety of drop-in crafts. The Sussex-Wantage Branch in Wantage is also hosting My Story/Your Story on Saturday, March 25, starting at 10 a.m. My Story/Your Story offers adults an opportunity to sit down in a neutral, quiet space, and record a conversation that can be saved and shared forever as part of a living, oral history.
