A major snowfall hit the area Tuesday, dropping nearly two feet of snow on the township.

The storm shuttered schools and businesses throughout the area both Tuesday and Wednesday as crews worked to clear the roadways. At some points during the storm, snow fell at a rate of about 2-4 inches per hour.

According to the county Office of Emergency Management, there were power outages in Branchville, Frankford, Montague, Wantage and Sussex Borough. As of Wednesday morning Jersey Central Power & Light reported there were no more outages in the area.

The department also reported a downed power line on George Road in Wantage, closing Route 23 between Unionville Road and County Highway 519. Route 23 in Hamburg also was closed for a time in the vicinity of Route 94.
