A well maintained AC unit will run more efficiently, use less energy ,and cost less money to run.
1.Clean and/or replace air filter
2.Examine Thermostat. If it is an older,,mechanical type ,you may want to consider upgrading to a programmable model.
3.Clean Outside Unit Over time leaves ,dirt ,grass clippings and the like build up around the outside unit reducing air flow. After shutting off the power to the unit you can then gently remove any debris.
