Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge is partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation to offer a mentored turkey hunt and workshop to women, ages 17 and up, that have little to no hunting experience.

Space is limited to 2 hunters selected via lottery drawing. The workshop day will occur on Saturday, April 15, from 8 a.m. to noon at Owens Station Crossing, Sussex, N.J., which will include a meet and greet with mentors and a turkey hunting seminar. The workshop day is open to all participants, regardless of whether they were selected for the hunt or not. Selected hunters will have one day of turkey hunting with a NWTF mentor during Period C or Period D at an exclusive portion of the refuge used only for specialty hunts.

Shotguns will be provided to participants if needed. Hunter must attend the workshop day to participate in the hunt. Participants will be chosen by lottery.

To register for this opportunity, contact Chelsea DiAntonio — Refuge Specialist, at 973-702-7266 ext. 18 by Friday, March 17. Participation is limited to 2 hunters. The lottery drawing for available spots will take place on March 20. A $100 refundable deposit is required for selected hunters and alternates after lottery drawing and must be received by Friday, March 31. Registered applicants must obtain a valid N.J. hunting license and Turkey Hunting Area 5 Permit for period C or D (prior to workshop day).
