Newton Theatre plans film anniversary weekend

The Newton Theatre is having a special anniversary weekend for two films — Wayne’s World and The Seventh Seal.
Tickets for both are on sale now.
Wayne’s World celebrates its 25th anniversary this Feb. 25 at The Newton Theatre at 4:30 and 7 p.m. Based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, Wayne's World is a wacky, irreverent pop-culture comedy about the adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey). From Wayne's basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called "Wayne's World" on local public access television. The show comes to the attention of a sleazy network executive (Rob Lowe) who wants to produce a big-budget version of "Wayne's World”. He also wants Wayne's girlfriend, rock singer Cassandra (Tia Carrere). Wayne and Garth have to battle the executive to save their show — and the girl.
Prior to each showing there will be a pre-movie Wayne’s World look-alike costume contest. A pair of tickets to a Newton Theatre show will be awarded to the winner.
On Feb. 26, also at 4:30 and 7 p.m., The Newton Theatre is screening The Seventh Seal in commemoration of its 60th anniversary. The Seventh Seal is about a knight returning from the crusades who seeks answers about life, death, and the existence of God as he plays chess against the Grim Reaper during the Black Plague. The Seventh Seal is a Ingmar Bergman film, starring Max von Sydow.
Tickets for each movie are only $7. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the Box Office at 973-383-3700.
