Women's March in Port Jervis on Saturday

PORT JERVIS, N.Y. — Members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Port Jervis were unable to go to Washington, D.C., to join the Women’s March on Saturday, so they decided to organize a march of their own.
The protest was started by just a few church members, but the numbers are growing quickly. The march will begin at the St. Peter’s Church. 31 West Main St., at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, and loop around the streets of Port Jervis.
The organizers state the following in their press release:
"Besides homemade signs, many will be carrying the same signs that will be seen in Washington,"say the organizers. "Thanks goes out to the now famous Shepard Fairey and his beautiful art work, seen internationally as President Obama’s 'Hope' poster.
"This event will provide an excellent opportunity for photographs and to interview the marchers.
"The marchers agree with the overall mission of the march, to stand together with partners and children to protect all our rights, safety, and health. The rhetoric of the past election cycle has insulted, demonized and threatened many of us – immigrants, Muslims those of other faiths, the LGBTQIA community, Native peoples, Black and Brown people, people with disabiliites, and survivors of sexual assault. Many fear what will happen nationally and internationally.
"In the spirit of democracy and to honor the champions of human rights, dignity, and justice who have come before us, the group joins in diversity to show that our presence in numbers across the United States cannot be ignored."
