Heater's Pond work to begin in September

Councilmen Anthony Nasisi and Robert Gunderman took the oath of office on Jan. 4 at the Ogdensburg Council Reorganization meeting.
Both Nasisi and Gunderman will serve three years.
During Mayor Steve Ciasullo's address, he welcomed the new council members and reminded the council of three main 2017 issues: Heater's Pond Dam armoring, important water projects, and budget.
Ciasullo said, per the engineer, the tentative work schedule for Heater's Pond Dam is to begin Sept. 2017 and complete early 2018, thus, revolving around the Heater's Pond swimming and boating schedule. The level of the pond will be lowered in order to complete the work.
Councilwoman Rachel Slater was unanimously appointed Council President.
Nasisi will take over former Councilman Robert McGuire's duties; and Gunderman will fulfill former Councilwoman Regina Rizzo's duties.
Also, the council unanimously approved the 2016 professionals for 2017, with Nasisi and Gunderman abstaining. A new Acting Court Administrator Magret Rodriguez was also approved at $24.91 per hour.
Per state law, the council also resolved to charge 8 percent interest for non-payment of the first $1,500 in taxes; and 18 percent interest on any amount over $1,500, per year. In addition, a penalty of 6 percent interest will be charged for delinquent amounts over $10,000, beyond Dec. 31, 2017.
Effective Jan. 1, 2017, there will be a 10-day grace period of quarterly tax payments made by cash, check, or money order.
Ciasullo also explained, the subordination agreement the council approved for 33 Edison Ave. He said, the agreement causes the borough to drop down to second on collection should anything happen regarding the re-financing of a mortgage.
Finally, due to council questions regarding Ogdensburg Volunteer Fire Department drivers, George Morville of Morville Agency explained, the agency requests each year: a membership list, motor vehicle list, and authorized driver list of all volunteers. The lists are requested as backup in order to cover the borough.
