At the year’s first council meeting, Daniel Barr who’s served as the council president for the past 18 years said, “I’m officially announcing that I’m not going for re-election. This will be my final year. It’s time to move on.”
Council members voted to appoint councilman Russell Law as the president for the coming year, while expressing regrets for Barr’s departure.
Councilman Richard Krasnomowitz wished everyone a healthy, happy New Year. “I’ll be the first to thank president Barr, he was my running mate,” he said.
He added, “What’s important here, the council does work very well together.”
Councilman John Burd was re-sworn to his position as a member of the council also at the beginning of the meeting. He said he and Barr go back a long way, serving in different boards over the years, regretting his decision. Agreeing with Krasnomowitz that he and the council work well together, he added the council needs to keep working to give Hamburg what it needs.
Law expressed his appreciation of Barr, and noted the volunteer positions in the borough are now almost all filled. He said he’s happy to see the community is stepping up to serve, while councilman Ron Garrett praised the road department and others who he said are doing outstanding work.
Councilman Mark Sean thanked Mayor Paul Moreno, and joked, “I tried to talk Barr out of it, but he wouldn’t listen,” referring to his leaving president’s position.
