HAMBURG — Keeping in with what’s now become a tradition, Hamburg Mayor Paul Marino presented long-serving deputy town clerk Kathy Garrett with a Service Award for her outstanding work for the Borough of Hamburg during the first meeting of the year.
He praised Garrett for her long service for over 20 years.
“Kathy’s worked here since 1995,” he said.
She started part time, and made sure those people who needed help and were also deserving got it, and also weeded out others who were just expecting a handout without merit, he explained.
Eventually, she worked her way to the Boards of Public Works and Recreation.
Marino said it’s not easy to get everybody to work together, but that Kathy has succeeded.
Kathy received big applause and cheers from both the council members, and her large extended family who came to the meeting for the occasion.
“You’ve got a give a speech now,” someone shouted out, to everyone’s laughter.
“I just love working here,” she said. “Thank you!” and made the rounds of the council members in the meeting room, greeting and chatting with everyone.
