James William Marion, Jr. of Franklin died unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Sussex. He was 72.
Born to James W. and Margaret J. Marion in Jersey City, he had lived in West Milford before moving to Franklin 48 years ago.
James graduated from DePaul High School and then served with the United States Army National Guard. He worked as a mason and maintenance worker for the Vernon Township Board of Education for the last 24 years. He was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception RC Church, Franklin, and led the Confirmation classes there. He was a former member of the Franklin Recreation Commission, former leader of Cub Scout Pack 90, Franklin, and coached the Little League baseball team, the Rangers. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing baseball and was an accomplished builder of many homes and other helpful projects over the years. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend to all he met. Everyone loved him.
James is the beloved husband for 48 years of Peggy Marion (nee Whritenour) of Franklin; devoted father of James W. Marion, III and his wife, Dawn, of Montague; Todd A. Marion and his husband, Christopher, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania; and Lauren Ann Quinn and her husband, Jason, of Hardyston Township; loving grandfather of Max, Jack, Brooke and Logan; dear brother of Joseph M. Marion and his wife, Lynn, of The Villages, Florida, and Donald Marion of Upper Greenwood Lake; uncle of Christopher Evertz, Brittany, Joshua, Steven, Neil, Jessica, Jennifer, Matthew, Shannon and Jason; and many great-nieces and nephews; brother-in-law of Linda and Chuck Evertz, Mark and Fran Whritenour, and Carolyn and John Orlich.
The family will receive their friends at F. John Ramsey Funeral Home, One Main St., Franklin, on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral at the funeral home will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 9 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception RC Church, Franklin, on Friday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Hardytson Township.
