Sussex County Community College will host “Cloud of Unknowing”. An Installation of Paintings will be on view at the Art Gallery in C building. The artist will be present during the Opening Reception on Friday, Dec. 9 from 6-8 p.m. in the SCCC Art Gallery. The exhibit will run through Jan. 20 and is free and open to the community.
In her commitment to a life of an artist, Nancy Train Smith has three distinct, perhaps converging types of studio practice, ceramics, painting and site-specific sculpture. She has lived in Massachusetts since 1991 and has used the spectacular landscape of South Dartmouth as inspiration for many of her projects. The exhibition of paintings is the culmination of an intensive study of landscape of the estuarine coast, where once the artist sought to capture the feeling of being in the landscape rather than simply looking at it, her recent work shows a more symbolic connection to place, using elemental signs such as cloud formation and waterfalls.
Her work has been included in many private and museum collections worldwide.
