Jefferson plans challenger basketball

| 07 Dec 2016 | 01:11

The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is accepting registrations for a 2016-17 winter season of its successful Challenger Basketball and Gym Activities program for special needs children.
Parents of boys and girls age 5–18 with physical or mental challenges are invited to join this program. Tom DeVries, a resident of Jefferson Township, will manage the league.
The activities will begin in the White Rock Elementary School’s Lower Gym, 2 Francine Place, Milton/Oak Ridge) on Saturday, Dec. 10, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and continue on Saturdays until March 11 (however, the program will not meet on December 24 and 31).
Starting on Tuesday, Jan. 3, the program will also run every Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cozy Lake School, 205 Cozy Lake Road, Milton/Oak Ridge, until February 28.
This program offers players the chance to participate in one of the most popular sports worldwide – basketball. Participants will play with the same equipment and by the same rules as in any basketball game with the exception that they have the option to use the “buddy” system for assistance. Every player on the roster plays in the game, and no score is kept. Thanks to fundraising efforts by the Challenger League’s parent group led by Scott Luker, the normal registration fee for this program will be waived for the ninth consecutive season.
If you would like a registration form mailed or e-mailed to you, please contact Mr. DeVries at 973-208-7762 or tomdv@optonline.net, the Jefferson Township Recreation Department at 973-663-8404 ext 4, or CPUNTURIERI@jeffersontownship.net.
