Sixteen members of the Wallkill Valley Regional High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) attended the 2016 FBLA-PBL National Fall Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from Nov. 2-6.
Those members were: Kayla Bifano, Autumn Card, Zachary Conklin, Jessica Dupre, Ellen Coppolella, Tim Hendershot, Casey Johannson, Garett Koch, Ryan Kostelnik, Mackenzie Lally, Scott Mueller, Anastasia Schroeder, Tyler Small, Amanda Spindler, Santasia Whetham-Denton, and Madison Yodice. Members participated in various motivational general sessions and workshops in order to develop their leadership skills. Wallkill Valley members were able to reflect on “A Legacy of Leadership” with members and advisers, which is the 2016-2017 national theme.
Wallkill Valley FBLA Co-President Scott Mueller also serves as the 2016-2017 New Jersey FBLA State president; he and the other nine State Officers led the New Jersey delegation. Harriet Turk, often described as “that cheerleader woman,” was the keynote speaker for the Opening General Session. Her ultimate goal is for everyone who hears her presentations to walk away with a confident sense of self, to embrace their unique abilities, and to move towards developing the skills that will help them to thrive. Students attended workshops that included “Be Your Best for Babies,” Starting a Business—Is it for You,” “Communicate Like a Leader,” “How to Run a Campaign,” “How to Dress for Success,” “Doing It Right! Doing It Well!” and “FBLA — Creating a Legacy.”
Randy Fox closed the conference as he brought his ultra-high energy to the stage compelling his audience to turn from being an everyday person into a superstar leader.
Wallkill Valley FBLA members also had the opportunity to network with members from states across the Nation as well as tour Milwaukee, including the Harley Davidson Museum, the Pabst Mansion, the Riverwalk, and Discovery World as well as enjoy a thrilling Bucks/Pacers basketball game.
