Governor signs career week resolution

A resolution sponsored by Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus designating the third week in October each year as “New Jersey Careers in Utilities Week” was signed today by Gov. Chris Christie.
“The utility industry offers a wide range of jobs for someone looking for a rewarding career,” said Space. “From customer service reps, who work in an office, to line workers responsible for making repairs out in the field, utility employees provide essential services such as electricity, gas and water to residents 24/7. This designation will hopefully help make students and job seekers aware of the various training programs and other initiatives New Jersey’s public utilities offer for employment.”
“The state’s $37 billion utility infrastructure is vital to our economy,” said Phoebus (R--Sussex, Warren and Morris). “Providing our homes, businesses and communities with these crucial services is a monumental task. It requires a trained, dependable workforce, but many people probably are unaware of all the different types of jobs that are available. This designation will help make the public aware that New Jersey’s public utilities offer numerous opportunities for people of all career stages and education levels to obtain employment.”
