Wallkill Valley hosts FBLA regional summit

HAMBURG — The 2016 New Jersey Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Northern Region Summit was held at Wallkill Valley Regional High School on Sept. 30.
The Summit, organized by Anastasia Schroeder, the New Jersey FBLA Northern Region Vice President and Wallkill Valley Chapter Secretary, enabled FBLA members to network with FBLA members in the Northern Region. Anastasia was assisted by Scott Mueller, Chapter Co-President and New Jersey FBLA State President, and Wallkill Valley Co-President Kayla Bifano; Community Service Vice Presidents Garett Koch, Sara Miceli, and Tyler Small; Treasurer Amanda Spindler; Parliamentarian Zach Dora; Historian Samantha Hutnick; Webmaster Tim Hendershot; and member Zach Schroeder.
Ninety FBLA members and advisers attended from Pompton Lakes, Lakeland Regional, High Point Regional, Lodi, Pope John, Scotch Plains-Fanwood, Business/Marketing/and Technology School, School of Information Technology, Parsippany Hills, Fair Lawn, and Wallkill Valley. New Jersey State Secretary and FBLA National Secretary Vanessa Ting and New Jersey Historian Monica Chen, Parliamentarian Casey Santini, and Webmaster Eileen Wang also attended; They were joined by Ms. Nancy Ostrowksi, New Jersey FBLA State Chairman, and Ms. Megan Fishwick, New Jersey Program Coordinator.
William Pereira, Wallkill Valley graduate and former FBLA Chapter President and New Jersey State Community Service Vice President, was the keynote speaker. Pereira shared his experiences in FBLA, his involvement with community service projects such as the March of Dimes, and the impact those experiences had in his college and career choices. He is employed at PricewaterhouseCoopers and serves as this year’s Chairman of the Sussex County March of Dimes March for Babies.
Wallkill Valley Superintendent David Carr extended extremely complimentary remarks to the participants regarding their leadership roles. State Sen. Steve Oroho addressed the members and advisers as well; he emphasized the role FBLA plays in developing competent, aggressive business leaders. His comments reflected the positive influence this national organization plays in developing the leaders of tomorrow. Garett Koch, who serves as the New Jersey Northern Region Community Service Director, outlined the state program “FBLA Feeds New Jersey” and the procedure to donate to designated food pantries.
The FBLA members had the opportunity to role play, collaborate with members from other schools, reflect on their “Portraits of Success,” and discover various FBLA opportunities. A luncheon catered by Mama Cee’s followed the Summit.
