Hilltop Country Day School is proud to announce the 39th Annual Art Exhibition and Sale Friday, October 21 through Sunday, Oct. 23. More than 45 local artists hailing from the Tri-State area display works of all mediums, including painting, jewelry, woodworking, ceramics, sculptures, and glass. Open to the general public, Hilltop encourages all members of the surrounding community to peruse the gallery. Thirty percent of all proceeds benefit the school directly.
“The Art Show is such an exciting time at Hilltop,” said Head of School Peter Gordon. “To have such a long standing fundraising tradition at the school shows the strength and reach of the Hilltop and local community.”
Watching the school transform into a gallery while actively engaging the students is a special opportunity few schools have the chance to incorporate into their school year.
As per tradition, the Art Exhibition and Sale features one local artist in particular. This year, the spotlight is focused on the artwork of Donna Gratkowski. Gratkowski creates landscapes in pastel.
This year’s “Opening Night Experience: Fine Art, Food, and Drink” will be hosted on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. The night, which became a successful annual event four years ago, will feature local restaurants and businesses in an effort to celebrate Hilltop and the surrounding community. The Gallery will be open on Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, October 23 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and admission is complimentary.
Tickets for the opening night can be purchased in advance at Hilltop Country Day School for $50. Ticket price will be $60 after Friday, October 14 and at the door. Tickets are available at the school 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, by phone (973) 729-5485, or online at www.hilltopart.org.
While some schools struggle to maintain the funding for extracurricular activities including the arts, the fine and performing arts are a central tenet of the Hilltop Country Day School program. Hilltop students are creative and opportunities for creative expression are plentiful. In conjunction with the art show, several participating artists run workshops for the Hilltop students in the weeks prior to the event.
Hilltop Country Day School is an independent, private coeducational day school serving students in preschool through grade 8.
