Jefferson Rec plans SAFETY clinic

    OAK RIDGE — The Youth Sports Research Council in cooperation with the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association presents The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic — Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth hosted by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department on Wednesday, Oct. 19 from 6:45-10 p.m. in the Jefferson Township Senior Center, 54 Schoolhouse Road, Milton/Oak Ridge, NJ. All Jefferson Township volunteer sports coaches as well as out-of-town volunteer sports coaches are invited to attend but must pre-register, and the registration deadline is Monday, Oct. 17.
    The State of New Jersey requires volunteer coaches to attend a “safety orientation and training skills program” in order to be eligible for civil immunity protection provided by the Little League Law (2A:62A-6 et. seq.) The curriculum for this Clinic is based upon the Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and has been tested in court as having met the standards.
    The topics for this class include Legal Aspects of Coaching, Psychological Aspects of Coaching, General Coaching Concepts, Training and Conditioning of Athletes, and Medical/First Aid Aspects of Coaching. Volunteer coaches who attend this program receive The Coaches Reference Manual (4th edition), a certification card acknowledging attendance, and a permanent registration with the Rutgers YSRC.
    Registration for this training class is online — The Jefferson Township Recreation Department is currently transitioning to an online registration system through Community Pass. Log on to http://www.communitypass.net and follow the prompts to set up your own personal account and register and pay for this class being sponsored by the Jefferson Township Recreation Department. You will automatically receive an email confirmation after you register and make your payment. This class is FREE to all Jefferson Township coaches who register, and all out-of-town volunteer coaches will be charged a fee of $31.
