Blais wins Arts committee scholarship

    Summer Blais, a 2016 Jefferson Township High School graduate, was the recipient of this year’s Jefferson Arts Committee’s scholarship award presented to her at the Senior Awards Ceremony in June by Scholarship Committee chairperson Rose Jackameit.
    In high school, Summer was recognized for her excellent grades with the President’s Award for Educational Excellence, was an Honor Roll and High Honor Roll student, and a member of the National Honor Society graduating with a weighted GPA of 3.961 and ranking 28 in her class of 245 students.
    Summer played softball on the freshmen and JV team, was a member of Art Club and Each One Reach One in her junior and senior year and worked at A ’La Art Studios as a birthday party hostess, a studio assistant, a class teacher, and a staff trainer; and this past summer, she was a camp counselor at A ‘La Art Studios’ summer program. She also participated in a forest clean out and in an O.S.C.A.R. fundraiser while in high school.
    Summer enjoys drawing, painting, pickup street hockey, and hiking.
    Summer was accepted at William Paterson University, Rider University, the Maryland Institute of Art College, and Hartford University. She chose to major in Visual Arts at William Paterson University and is presently involved in their Student Art Association. Her career goals are to be a children’s book illustrator, a criminal sketch artist, or an art teacher.
    The Jefferson Arts Committee wishes Summer and all the 2016 JTHS graduates, the best of luck in their future endeavors.
