Peter "Astro Pete" and "Jess" Gardner, age 50, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Bon Secours Community Hospital in Port Jervis, New York. Born in Dover, Pete had graduated High Point Regional High School in 1984 and had been a resident of Sussex County most of his life. He was passionate about racing and Nascar. Pete raced stock cars and won the 1991 and 1992 Championship at White Lake Speedway in New York. He will be dearly missed by the dirt track community. Pete loved all sports; especially the Buffalo Bills and the New Jersey Devils and was a huge WWE Wrestling fan. He was predeceased by his father, Pete Gardner, in 2001. He is survived by his son, Jesse, of Sparks, Nevada; his princess, Amanda Gigante of Pennsville; his mother, Lenore of Sussex; his brother, Ben and his girlfriend Annie Kirwin of Dingmans Ferry, PA; and many cherished and close friends. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Sunday prior to the funeral from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Everyone attending is asked to wear their favorite racing t-shirt to show your love towards Pete. Private cremation services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations may be made to a Trust Fund that will be set up for his son Jesse and princess Amanda.
